Rising Damp Myths and Scams
Rising Damp Myths, Misdiagnosis & What Actually Works
Safety and the “chemical” myth busted
The rising damp injection product we use is solvent based and fully evaporates within days of injection.
Claims that “water-based is safer than nasty chemicals” are pure fear-marketing.
The solvent we use is identical to the one found in everyday make-up and sunscreen.
It has almost no smell, evaporates completely in a couple of days, and leaves only the active silicone behind.
Why Some People Say Chemical Injection Doesn't work?
If DPC injection doesnt work it is because:
1. The chemical inejction was not applied properly by the contractor, or
2. Rising damp was NOT the source of the problem.
The symptoms were misdiagnosed then the wrong solution was applied.
Here's 5 points explaining the science of chemical injection.
- The injection fluid is made of a solvent and a silicone molecule that carries ethanol groups, which keep the silicone stable during storage and allow it to stay fluid long enough to penetrate deep into the masonry.
- Once injected, the solvent evaporates, and the silicone reacts with moisture in the wall and air, breaking off the ethanol groups and activating the silicone molecule.
- This leaves behind reactive silicone that chemically bonds to the silica within the brick and mortar, forming a permanent part of the pore structure rather than a surface coating.
- The inside of the masonry pores become lined with a water-repellent silicone network, so liquid water is blocked while the wall can still breathe.
- Because the silicone is chemically bonded into the structure, it cannot wash out or peel away, and this is the same fundamental process used in high-quality concrete and brick sealers.
If people understood the chemistry behind rising damp injection, then they would never say “silicone injection doesn’t work”, they would say “The contractor didn’t do his job properly”.
What’s the Difference?
Effective Rising Damp Products Start with Penetration and Bonding
The real difference comes down to how deeply our rising damp products penetrate the masonry — and how firmly each treatment bonds to the wall itself.
Most rising damp products on the market are water-based and rely on existing moisture in the bricks to draw the chemical through. No pressure. No pump. Limited reach.
While those methods can work, pressure-injected systems deliver far better results and long-term protection.
Why do we prefer solvent based injection?
It penetrates into masonry deeper and faster.
The light solvent carries the silicone deep into the wall; once there, the solvent evaporates over the course of 2-5 days, the silicone reacts with the wall’s natural moisture, and rising damp is blocked—permanently.
The silicone product is water-activated and bonds physically and chemically to masonry particles making the bricks themselves water repellant.
Result: Superior depth penetration, strength, and longevity, solvent-based options (with safe, evaporating carriers) often outperform, especially in challenging walls.
We use this method not only to provide you with a better result but to also protect ourselves against failure.
Here's A REAL Rising Damp Myth (Scam)
Polarity inversion devices.
These are devices that some companies claim reverse the polarity of the water molecules and push the water back down the wall again.
Their sales pitch claims that these devices are chemical free and environmentally friendly, which they are (because they do absolutely nothing).
Why does it look like they work?
Because they sell you these devices but ALSO remove the salt effected render, then render the walls again with a salt retardant render which hides the symptoms for a few years. Eventually the salt moves up above the salt retardant render and damages the wall higher up above the new render.
(We have videos of houses with them installed and the walls are wet and damaged)

Here's Another Myth - Mould!
Often waterproofing carries a lot of fear – health concerns with mould.
Rising damp 99.5% of the time is NOT wet enough to cause mould.
Mould comes from water, dampness from rising damp is usually NOT wet enough to cause mould.
If someone wants to dispute me then call me out to site and you can prove me wrong.
Mould is caused by a water leak like:
- Failed membranes in bathrooms (showers)
- Leaking windows (external walls)
- Airconditioning pipe penetrations in walls
- Broken gutters & roof flashing
- Leaking chimneys and chimney flashing
- Sub-soil which is wet from rain (poor ventilation)
- Basements or walls that are retaining soil
Rising damp is the capillary action of dampness upwards through masonry (not hydrostatic pressure – i.e. water). Capillary action doesn’t usually carry enough water to create the environment to cause mould.
*There are rare situations where rising damp can be wet. The reason is usually that there is not much space between water saturated soil and the floor boards.
If a company is using mould as a scare tactic to sell you something, then BE SKEPTICAL.
Rising Damp Injection Products
The rising damp injection system we use was developed using a specialised chemistry-sector AI engine designed to optimise molecular behaviour inside masonry.
Silonexx used a platform that runs multi-variable models across global industrial chemical datasets, patent libraries, and high-resolution material-science studies. It evaluates silane–siloxane reaction profiles, substrate porosity patterns, and diffusion rates to design an injection fluid with maximum penetration efficiency.
The AI performs wall-composition mapping, predicting how the formulation interacts with brick microcapillaries and mortar mineral phases. This ensures the active molecules form a stable hydrophobic network inside the wall rather than a surface-level coating.
The result was a chemically integrated moisture barrier—engineered at the molecular scale, strengthened by AI-driven formulation modelling, and built to deliver long-term, structural-level rising damp protection.
Precision-designed chemistry. AI-validated performance.

Why Silonexx Outperforms
More Product, Better Coverage
- Pressure injection drives the solution deep into every brick.
- Uses more product for full saturation.
- Reduces the chance of missed spots.
- Delivers consistent, even protection throughout the wall.
Water-Activated — Not Water-Soluble
- Natural moisture in your walls activates the injection formula.
- Bonds permanently to the masonry — stays where it’s injected.
- Other water-based options can drift or weaken when walls stay damp.
- Once it sets, the rising damp treatment becomes part of the wall.
- For a longer-lasting barrier, an injected product outperforms standard creams.
Pumped — Not Smeared
- When walls are saturated, internal pressure can resist absorption.
- Pumping under pressure pushes water out first, then fills micro-voids.
- Formula locks in place on a molecular level for total coverage.
- In heritage substrates, our rising damp treatment bonds reliably without surface damage.
Engineered with Chemistry in Mind
- Not just another damp-proofing chemical — rising damp products built with precision chemistry.
- AI-designed formula modelled from thousands of masonry types and conditions.
- Chemically bonds with brick, block, and stone to form a durable barrier.
- Supported by premium waterproofing supplies and trusted local suppliers.
Maximum Penetration. Maximum Bond.
Minimum Risk.
That’s the Pure Confidence difference — smarter, deeper, and longer-lasting rising damp products trusted by homeowners, builders, and specialists across Sydney.
